Conde Nast International, the publishers of Vogue have rushed to publish 40,000 more copies of the Black Issue of Italian Vogue. The Black Issue of Vogue has been in such high demand in the UK and the US that there will be 30,000 more copies for the US market and 10,000 for the British market. Apparently this is the highest demanded Issue of Italian Vogue EVER!!!!
According to TIME magazine online
"After the original run of the July issue sold out in the U.S. and U.K. in 72 hours, Vogue Italia has just rushed to reprint 30,000 extra copies for American newsstands, another 10,000 for Britain and 20,000 more in Italy."
Franca Sozanni, the editor of Italian Vogue was the orchestrator behind the Black Issue of Vogue. She was inspired by Barack Obama's candidacy.
The Black Issue's fashion spread is shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel. There are 4 alternate covers featuring Liya Kebede, Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn and Sessilee Lopez as the cover models.
Of special note in the Black Issue is the fact that almost all of the advertizers in the magazine featured white models. The only exceptions i noticed were an ad for Yamamay featuring a blac kmodel and an ad for Rolex featuring Miss Universe 2007, Riyo Mori from Japan.
I guess its one step at a time.
As usual i like to post other bloggers responses the Vogues Black Issue so here I go.

I like the whole idea of the All Black Issue, but I think what the industry should learn from this is to actually use more black models so race won’t be an issue…
