Victoria Beckham Dress Collection Fall 2009 ad campaign

28 August 2009 2 Comments

Last year, I was bemused by the video for The Victoria Beckham dress Collection.Victoria Beckham ran around a  Victorian style house, whimsically hiding behind furniture, the results left us all a bit shocked but we remebered it so I guess it must have been  good. This  falls ad campaign is equally as wierd. The campaign was shot in St Stephens Gardens in Westminister London and features models wearin Victoria Beckham dresses while swinging on the doorstep of Central London Townhouses. It's really strange  but somehow it works.

Topshop Online Press Day

28 August 2009 No Comments

Topshop 1I waited in anticipation for the Arcadia Group's Online Line Press Event showcasing their Autumn/ Winter lines for 2009 from well loved high street brands such as  Topshop, Miss Selfridges, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Evans to name a few.  So after a long and frantic day's work in the Capital I marched through the rain (in heels) towards the Soho area to get my fashion fix.

A well attended and successful event, the room was packed with fashion bloggers eager to see what fashions the future holds for the next couple of months. The focus of everyone attention was an inconspicuous photo booth in the corner which, when explored, turned out to be a doorway to a photo studio and a rack filled with fashion goodies which to my delight, I got to try on!

Topshop 5Women were everywhere flinging off clothes in a frenzy to be the first people to try on the latest designs.   There were representatives from Vogue and the Times there too. I also met Susie from Style Bubble in the dressing rooms and she is just as lovely, if not more, in person trying on a black and gold studded number. She looked great in it. In fact all the bloggers I met were really nice people (Shout out to Scarlett Rose from Little Bambi Boots LOL… hope the evening drinks were fun!)

Tophop 5 I must say that Topshop's clothes exceeded my expectations this season with some fantastic pieces. I was instantly drawn to a glitzy "Balmain" inspired dress with silver sequins.  The hem line this season is high …ladies! And if your taller than average (like me) you might find that some sexy leggings to match might be a glamorous necessity.

Topshop 2

The collection also included some amazing pieces. There were faux fur jackets in variety of colours, with a very appealing texture. All the ladies got their hands on the Ashish leopard print wedges which were to die for! However there was one outfit that I would have gladly taken home if it had been offered; a sexy, glitzy, champagne pink animal print dress! I was waiting for them to say "go on Paula it's yours!"(LOL) but to no avail I had to leave it on the rack (LOL)
We took some fun shots where we all spent most of the time having fun and not really modelling just cackling wildly!   I had a good time. Fashion is about having good times! And it's even better with great wine and great company.

Anna Wintour on David Letterman

26 August 2009 No Comments

Vogue staffers are being very visible as they publicly promote the September Issue documentary movie. Andre Leon Talley was a judge on the Miss Universe Telecast this weekend and Last night Anna Wintour, Vogue's Head Honcho made an appearance on David Letterman's talk-show. Anna took off her trademark shades for the interview. It was almost like we got to see the true Anna Wintour. It was funny to see Anna grilling David on his choice of socks.

26 August 2009 1 Comment

20090825_idmagcover_250x333 Jourdan Dunn, Chanel Iman, Arlenis Sosa and Sessilee Lopez are on the new cover of I-D Magazine.  As you all know the Black Issue is the biggest Issue of any fashion Magazine, so its a huge deal that ID Magazine has decided to feature 4  black beauties on their most prestigious  cover of the year.  The all black  cover was shot by  Emma Summerton who also shot this years Jaeger campaign with Lara Stone.

I know I-D always features models with one eye closed but is it just me or are both of Jourdan Dunn's eyes closed?

Alex Beer – Confessions of a Model turned Fashion Photographer

22 August 2009 2 Comments

Alex Beer model photographer

There is something quite "007" about Premier model Alex Beer; He is mysterious, sexy, athletic and not afraid of a challenge. Behind the camera or in front of it Alex is making waves in the fashion industry;modelling internationally and shooting ad campaigns for labels like Danielle Alessandrini and editorials for magazines like GQ. And like a true man of mystery he still makes time for his leading lady (sorry girls!). Be sure to check out his blog  where you can check out his photography skills!

Alex Beer 1.    Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a full time model with Premier. I have modelled all over the world and shot ad campaigns for labels like Danielle Alessandrini and editorials for magazines like GQ. I have always been interested in the creative side to photography and by the photographer's vision of how they decide on a story and then tell it through various compositions, lighting and subject expression. To me it is a window to a world that only exists for that moment in time and images are a permanent reminder of that world. Moving from in front of the camera to behind the camera seemed an obvious and easy transition. Photography is my passion.

Alex_Beer1j 2.    How did you get signed to Premier Model Management?

I first modelled with Nevs back in 2003. Jon Bruce used to be my booker. He moved to Premier, and we stayed in touch and he took me on with Premier thankfully. They have been amazing. All the bookers are really friendly and great to work with. Plus get me good jobs…!!!!

3.    Your modelling pictures have an element of mystery… would you say you're a man of mystery?

I think everyone has an element of mystery. That's what captivates you when you see them in images. The eyes tell everything about that moment… Modellling is like acting. You have to perform when the camera is on you. As a good model you have to make someone stop on your image, to make them think….having mystery is a good thing. Diverse mystery even better! Thats what gets you work.

Alex beer 2

Alex beer 44.    You shot an upcoming editorial for GQ with Zena Holloway, what was it like working with her?

Working with Zena Holloway for the November issue of GQ was amazing and it's a 12 page editorial so you will see a lot of her work in the magazine and the story behind the shoot.

It was one of the most exciting shoots I have ever done.

I love the water and I used to be a national swimmer so it came naturally to me to play my role in the shoot. Being underwater and shooting was very different to anything else I have done in my modelling career and as I am a big fan of Zena's work it added to my excitement when I was cast to do it! She is an amazing photographer; Friendly, easy to work with and professional. Although my eyes were very red after! I recommend putting full fat milk drops into your eyes while shooting underwater all day..!!!

Alex Beer Photography 15.    Describe your personal style?

My personal style (photography) is very cinematic and with a directional approach, where the concept, style and all the details are carefully thought  out prior to the shoot with the models acting out their roles in the scenes. I create scenarios, concepts and feelings with my photographs.

My style is very eclectic and some may say eccentric! I love hats and I have lots of them, always like to put a hat with any outfit – no matter what the occasion!  I love putting outfits together with a twist….

6.    What made you want to crossover and work behind the camera as photographer?

I have always loved photography and art. I like to be moved by images, igniting feeling and emotion inside me. Being a model is sometimes very frustrating as you are just a subject, you have no creative scope or control. I am fascinated by everything that goes into creating a great shot; From finding locations to models to getting the right light, I could not wait to start taking pictures. I love the excitement I get from taking pictures. The self-fulfilling buzz and passion.

Alex Beer Photography 3   7. Does your experience as a model influence and improve how you work as a photographer?

Being a model has helped enormously..! I understand angles of models, body posing and above all how to make the models feel relaxed to allow their personality and spirit to shine through in shots.

8. Any upcoming shoots that you can tell us about?

I am shooting the Autumn editorial for Refresh Magazine. And this month, the ad campaign for Nico-D. That's all I can tell you about at this stage anyway!

9. What is your favourite movie of all time?
Matrix.

10. Finish this sentence. At weekends I can be found…..
Trying to chill out and switch off from my constant stream of ideas (doesn't usually work)!! Watching movies and eating out in my favourite restaurants…..with my girlfriend, who I ADORE!!! ha ha

Kate Moss has 5 September Covers

22 August 2009 No Comments

Kate moss September Covers
It's obvious that fashion editors have a lot of faith in Kate Moss' ability to make magazines fly off the shelves.  September is the most important month in fashion and  Kate Moss has 4 September covers. She is on the cover of British Vogue, Russian Vogue, V Magazine, W Magazine. She was also on the cover of AnOther Magazine but that was the Autumn Winter 2009/2010 issue but it comes out in September so I guess we could say that Kate has had 5 September covers.

SIx scents paired each designer with a perfumer to create their unique scents.  British Designer Henry Holland was paired with Stephen Nielsen.

Henry wanted something cheeky; he imagined a big purple couch, made of velour, for all his friends to hang out on surrounded by puppies. When his perfumer, Stephen Nielsen thought about making it unisex, Henry said, “Just lots of sex.” -Fashionista

Another Magazine Fall Winter 09/10

 Kate Moss AnOther Magazine

The covers of AnOther magazine usually go beyond fashion. They bridge the gap between Fashion and Art.  I remember there alternate covers that featured Tilda Swinton on the cover. Both covers looked like unique works of art.

AnOther magazine has struck gold again. For Autumn/ Winter 2009 their are 4 covers of the magazine/ They feature  Kate Moss in Galliano, Vanessa Paradis in Chanel, Natalie Portman in Chanel & Katie Holmes in Alaia. THe covers all have the byline "Celebrating a decade in fashion"

Kate Moss and Katie Holmes were photographed by Craig McDean and Natalie Portman and Vanessa Paradis were phtotographed by Hedi Slimane.

HERO mag- presents tommorow’s superheroes of fashion

20 August 2009 No Comments

HERO_LAUNCH_ISSUE_COVER What would you get if you mixed  "Contributing Editor" with "Electric Youth" and added a dash of London attitude and style? You'd get get "HERO"!

"HERO is a London based magazine that debuts the Next Big Thing: the models that will define catwalks and campaigns for seasons to come. Working with some of the industry’s newest and most talented photographers, and with a host of the world’s biggest and best modeling agencies, we have compiled a world-class intimate and iconic introduction to beginnings of something amazing: the Faces of Tomorrow."

On the cover of HERO is Robbie Wadge, photographed by Matthew Kristall. All the models in the mag come complete with superpowers. Don't mess with Robbie or you'll be in trouble with the Caped Crusader, Batman. The  mag also features  up and coming models  Remy Baquiche, Ryan Koning, Ryan Viiperi, Nicolas Boldt and Luuc Brans.  I am not sure if the other  guys  have super powers but I think spelling Luuc with two U's  should classify as a superhero power.

Top Ten: Fashion Songs

20 August 2009 No Comments

There are loads of songs that are inspired by fashion, Some  songs about fashion are good some of them bad. I rounded  up my favourite ones that left a lasting impression. I even  managed to find a Supermodels number 1 hit single. Below is my list of the top ten fashion related songs.

10. Fashion by Lady Gaga
Any list of  the best fashion inspired songs would have to have at least one Lady Gaga song on it.  So many of her  videos are  fashion inspired ( she even wears Thierry Mugler , Jeremy Scott and Dolce & Gabanna  her video for Paparazzi). In the end i chose "Fashion" because its actually about fashion

9. Power in my Purse by Marci X
I  kind of cheated with this one as it isn't an actual single . It was created for the  movie  Marci X.  Although its not a real song  any woman that can rattle off  designer names like Marci X is definitely Fierce.

8.Fashionista  by Jimmy James

There is one line in this song that  sums up how harsh the fashion industry can  be. "No one Ugly allowed". Love it!!!
