Instead of doing our usual reviews of London Fashion Week. This season we decided to do something a little different. I found 6 six guys. 3 of them are fashion bloggers and work in the fashion industry and 3 of them are typical guys that don't work in the fashion industry and aren't actively involved in fashion. Sometimes there is a disconnect between what the fashion industry thinks is great and what the wider population likes so we have decided to put that to to the test . It's a battle of Joe Bloggs vs. the Fashionistos. The first designer before our panel is Paul Costelloe.
Special thanks to Fashionbeans, WWIT, Male Mode
Cillian from Male Mode - "This does strike as a mere mash-up of all the most popular trends of the past few seasons (lace, leather, metallics) but, having said that, there are some wearable pieces. The belted camel coat with dramatic shoulders and lapels as well as the bouffant hair seem to right any wrongs that have been committed though."
Dennis from WWIT - "The whole collection has a old victorian vibe, classic sihoulettes a la breakfast at Tiffany's that's kept short and sexy with emphasis on the voluminous skirt. Luxurious tailored coats provide the juxtaposition with the flirty ruffles and gorgeous prints, the colour palette screams autumn whilst the metallics keep things modern. Elegant functional pieces that's easy to wear."
Jacob from Fashionbeans - "Jadore this collection. Naughty, repressed country folk instantly springs to mind. Costelloe has used some Great Prints in fall coloured fabrics with a touch of muted blue and Black lace. Heavy, woollen tweed like coats give a ‘winter in the woods vibe to the collection. Overall the collection has a somewhat Mothy / dark butterfly feel with the exaggerated shoulders and clinched in waste."
3 regular guys who from different walks of lives who aren't involved in the fashion business.
Steve from London -Interesting collection overall, quite conservative in parts and sexy in others. The heels are great! I love them. I like the lace in some outfits. Lots of blue and black together which I'm not crazy about. My favourite outfit is picture 1, which is the silvery open neck dress, very sexy. But my favourite item of all is the gold trousers in picture 2. I love these, but I would like to see a black top to go with the trousers.
James from Aylesbury – The long military trench coats in (pictures 4,5) really stand out; they are fantastic, really sleek. I am not sure the Rar Rar dresses with bulky shoulder pads work, the overall shape is all wrong, bit too Blackadder. However I love (picture 3) the black and blue diagonal check bodice with the luscious black Rar Rar. The tight leather sleeves/gloves in this photo are also cool.
Nish from London- Not having followed any fashion shows in last few years whilst hiding in my underwater cave, I am surprised to see something so wearable and appealing on the ramp. The clothes with the golden hues and checkered skirts are my favourites, although I suspect that the coats and skirts wouldn't work together. So despite being spectacular I feel the collection is slightly disjointed. Having said that, I would wear it, if I was a girl and there were parties to go to down here, also would need waterproof versions of the collection.
THE CONSENSUS: Paul Costelloe gets 2 thumbs up from us because hes managed to impress the fashion pack while still appealing to the general public.
The next designer before our panelists will be Charlie Le Mindu so stay tuned for that.
