Thought, I'd share this vid of Ed Stephens in Brazil. You might remember him from the "Renegade" photo shoot that we did. Here is Ed walking the runway for Brazilian label, Juss.

I wish I was in Brazil right now because the English weather can't decide if its Summer or Spring and keeps fluctuating between sunny days and  cold miserable ones.

Louis Vuitton ads banned in the UK for misleading consumers

27 May 2010 No Comments

Louis vuitton ads banned The Advertising Standards Agency has banned two Louis Vuitton ads from being used in the U.K. The ads are deemed as misleading customers. The offending  images show people who are making Louis Vuitton goods by hand. This is misleading as Louis Vuitton makes  most of their products by machine, not by hand.

Whenever, ads get banned I always think it might be intentional because banned ads get a lot more attention than regular ads.

26 May 2010 No Comments

I recently heard the Noisettes new single, “Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t've ” which is a cover of the same song by the Buzzcocks and I was truly impressed.  What i didn’t now was that it was part of Dr Marten’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

To celebrate 50 years the brand has  teamed up with bands from today to  recreate some iconic British hits from the past 50 years of music.

They are even offering free downloads of the songs via the official 50 Years of Dr Martens site.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley to replace Megan Fox in Transformers 3

Rosie huntington 3 The rumor mill is buzzing with news that British Supermodel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley may be the replacement for Megan Fox in the new, Transformers 3 movie.

Earlie this week Megan Fox confirmed that she  won’t be returning  to  play the role of Mikaela Banes. This has led to much speculation as to who will play  Shia LeBeouf’s love interest in the next movie.

Rosie Huntington Whitely worked with  Transformer’s director  Michael Bay during a shoot for Victoria’s Secret’s christmas commercial. Which is probably the reason for the new rumour. So far, the studio hasn’t confirmed or denied whether or not Rosie will be in the movie.  I guess only time will tell.

The Royal College of Art Summer Fashion Show - Gala Arrivals

After a troubled year that saw Estrella Archs leave Emanuel Ungaro and Lindsay Lohan being taken on as a creative adviser Emanuel Ungaro has finally taken a step in the right direction. The brand has confirmed that Giles Deacon is their new  creative director.

This is definitely a better partnership than the ill fated alliance the brand had with Lindsay Lohan last year that was widely panned by fashion critics.

Giles Deacon's first show for Emanuel Ungaro will be held in October 2010.

Tyra Banks pays tribute to McQueen

23 May 2010 No Comments

Tyra Banks, Alexander McQueen Tyra Banks recently announced her return to modelling  and that she has re-signed with her modelling agency. She recently enlisted the help of American Vogue’s, Andre Leon Talley to help her pay tribute to the late designer, Alexander McQueen.

“When I heard of Alexander (Lee as he was called by his friends) McQueen’s passing back in February I was devastated. Not only was he one of my favorite designers, he was someone that I had been lucky enough to meet and was a wonderful human being. The day that he passed the world lost a truly amazing person. I knew that I had to pay him tribute in a special way. I also wanted to do a photo shoot decked out in “Head to Toe” McQueen.” - Tyra Banks

Grace Coddington Vogue 1962

After watching the September Issue documentary I now have a slight obsession with all things Grace Coddington. In the documentary  Grace reveled that she had won a  modelling competition for Vogue in 1959.  Thanks to ModSixties the pictures of her two consecutive Vogue covers from 1962 have become available online. She covered th August 1962 and September 1962 images.

Not an easy feat to accomplish, infact I have no recollection ay other model having don* current  covers of the same magazine.

Remi Rebillard Captive

Another amazing spread by Remi Rebillard. Its called captive and is a high fashion interpreation of captivity. It's the perfect combination of  raw sexuality and demure sensuality.  It was styled by Pipi Loose with artistry by Timothy Priano. Hair and Make up on Alana by Adi Sage and Davide Calcinai for Aksana . One of the most amazing editorials. I love how the first images justoposes the power of the cage with the delicate beauty of the model.

Stuart Stockdale : Confessions of a Design Director

20 May 2010 No Comments

Stuart Stockdale-Jaeger

Stuart Stockdale has been credited by many as being an intergral member of the team responsible for the resurgence of  Jaeger. His resume includes him designing in all of the major fashion capitals for brands such as Jasper Conran, Romeo Gigli, J Crew, Pringle of Scotland, Jigsaw and Jean Paul Gaultier.

While he was at Pringle of Scotland, the former model  was credited  by Vogue  as "the man who made knits sexy" and praised for revitalizing the Pringle brand.

Now during his tenure at Jaeger, the brand has grown from strength to strength and continues to  reinforce its prominence as an iconic British heritage brand. We were very fortunate to have Stuart answer some of our  questions about his life, Jaeger SS2010, Jaeger London AW2010 and the inspiration for Jaeger's new line Boutique by Jaeger.

How did a young man from Cumbria become a designer? Was fashion always one of your passions?

Initially, I was self-taught. I didn’t choose art at school, only academic subjects, although I felt my vocation was as a ‘creative’. So outside of my studies, I started drawing and painting. I also bought a camera and set up a darkroom in my parent’s house. I was then accepted onto the local foundation course at Cumbria College of Art and Design. I had a detour for a few years as a male model before eventually taking up my place there which led to me being accepted onto the BA course at Central St. Martins and afterwards the MA course at the RCA.

What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?

A wedding dress for a friend.

Jaeger by Jaeger 2 Jaeger by Jaeger

Jaeger is a brand with a rich heritage. How do you maintain that heritage while designing new collections?

Our heritage is extremely important to us and the emphasis is to use it to inspire our modern designs. We are conscious to keep progressing whilst retaining the strong spirit of our fantastic 126 years of heritage. Our aim is to combine creativity and innovation with desirability and wearability.

Kelis is the Face of River Island’s Graduate Fashion Week

19 May 2010 No Comments

Kelis River Island Graduate Fashion Week (2)
Long before there was Lady Gaga there was  Kelis. Despite my love for Gaga, I have to admit Kelis is the original  trendsetter of the aughties (2000′s), queen of couture and emerging fashion. This summer, the hip hop mould breaker, is going to be the face of  River Island’s Graduate Fashion Week womenswear pieces.

River Island will sponsor Graduate Fashion Week for the sixth consecutive year and has decided that, Kelis who was model scouted at the age of 14 and making music by 17 is the perfect fit for the brand.

“People need help and encouragement when they’re starting out. That’s why I think what River Island is doing with fashion graduates is so great. I don’t want to look like everybody else, you know?” -
Kelis

The Graduate Fashion Week womenswear pieces will be sold in 40 River Island stores across the UK and on www.river-island.com from the 24th of May. Each item has been created by past Graduate Fashion Week students who are currently employed at River Island and embody the energy, quirky  aesthetic and originality of the brand.
