London Fashjion: What do you think of Britain's Missing Top Model? I watched the first episode last night ( I am 1 episode behind, I kept on missing the show when it would air so I caught a late night re-run on BBC Three).
On watching the show one cant help but to compare it to Tyra's show. The name is even similiar to America's Next Top Model Now dont pretend that you have never watched one of the many Incarnations of Top Model. America's Next Top Model has to be one of the shows with the most International franchises. Nigeria, Belgium and even Kazakhastan have their own local versions. Its the show that taught the world the meaning of the word "FIERCE!!!!!"
However, there is one big difference between Britain's Missing Top Model and America's Next Top Model…all the girls have a disability. The show follows eight girls with disabilities who compete for the chance to appear in a major fashion spread. Each week one contestant is sent home. The premise of the show is that "disability has a natural place in life, so why shouldn't it be part of fashion". The girls disabilities are varied, some are deaf, blind and some are amputees. The show aims to change the perceptions of disability and raise the profile of disabled models.
So far the reviews of the show have been mixed. Its also important to note that the show has gotten a lot of press because it explores territory that no other show has delved into. America's next Top Model has featred models with disabilities but there has never been a show with a whole cast of disabled models.
