SS11 Beauty Trends: Orange Lips

29 September 2010 1 Comment

There's always a certain point during Fashion Week when I get really burnt out on following all the runway coverage. It's not because I'm not fascinated by the shows, its that I start feeling glum about the fact that I'll never be able to own any of the incredible clothes. It is at this point that I turn my attention to the beauty trends. Hair and makeup are just as important as the clothes when presenting a collection, but generally don't come with a £2,000 price tag in a size you can't fit into. And they can often be imitated at home. So without further ado, let's talk SS11 beauty trends!

Orange Lips

Looks like next Spring, orange is king (Orange doesn't rhyme with anything so we'll just have to make do with that). From the orange-on-orange seperates at Prada to PPQ's pumpkin-coloured mini dresses, orange is everywhere on the runways...including models' lips. And its not a shy peach or a muted coral, it's balls-out traffic cone orange at Fendi and Ohne Titel, neon at Les Copains and a glossy persimmon at Vena Cava.

To achieve the look at home, Lime Crime Cosmetics has you covered with a buttery orange-sherbert lipstick called "Cosmopop" and a matte tangerine shade called "My Beautiful Rocket". Purchase online at Lime Crime or at Space NK in the UK. For a more apricot shade, go for Illamasqua's "Perilous" (buy here).

Posh at New York Fashion week

Everyone's favorite WAG, ex-Spice Girl and British Fashion Awards nominee Victoria Beckham just unveiled her Spring 2011 collection at New York Fashion Week. Although the collection featured many of Posh's signature streamline, super-flattering tailored looks, there were also flowy draped pieces in purples and nudes for a lighter Spring style. With pops of canary yellow, asymetrical necklines and a distinct lack of accessories, overall the feel was minimal, futuristic, and very feminine. The makeup was reminiscent of Miu Miu AW10, especially on Lindsey Wixon who did both the Miu Miu campaign and walked in Victoria's show; Pastel purple eyeshadow all the way up to the brows, nude lips and slicked hair. Posh also kept her promise not to use "size-0" models in her show, and Kristy Kaurova and Amanda Laine were a few of the models to share the catwalk with Lindsey. Come Spring, you can expect to be seeing a lot of these pieces worn by her growing celebrity clientele. Overall a strong collection, but a collection consisting almost entirely of dresses...one wonders if Victoria Beckham will branch out into seperates in her next.  By Emma Freed

Here is the  Spring Summer 2010 collection from British born designer Charlotte Ronson. She showed her collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The collection inclued various silhouettes such as pleated skirts, harem pants and  tunics and combined aspects of femininity and playfulness with utility.

British Designer, John Galliano is renowned for his theatrical fashion shows. His recent  fall-winter 2010-2011 show from men's fashion week  was was a fusion of East meets West. It was inspired  by Sherlock Holmes but he went beyond the predictable and included lace up corsets and looks inspired by Japanese traditional costumes such as the jinbei and the kimono. The footwear even included wooden Geta sandals. The result was sensational.

Last Saturday was the "Make do and Mend", ethical fashion event at  Oxfam Chelsea. Unfortunately I spent the day in A&E  ( freak eye scratching accident) and didn't make it to the event.  However, I was lucky enough to get some photos from the event courtesy of Tom Worman. The event was all about making something  new out of something old and  being able to create fashion from vintage clothing.

Jeremy Scott channels the Flinstones for SS10

24 September 2009 No Comments

Jeremy Scott  may hail from Kansas City but for  his SS10 show in London he returned to Bedrock. The collection payed homage to the iconic  60′s cartoon family, the Flinstones. The collection is  surely  creative and buzz-worthy but some items such as the menswear  were low in wearability and I  really cant see any guys  wearing a polkadot loincloth or a mankini.  The womens  line  had a higher wearability factor. It included sexy swimsuits, togas and tunics. The denim pieces and the bone print jumpsuits were the highlight of the show.

The show featured celeb models Pixie Geldof, Daisy Lowe and Liberty Ross as well as Dominique Hollingsworth, Cole Mohr, Chanel Iman, Ash Stymest and Lekeline Stange.

Clothes Show London 2009

The Clothes Show at Excel London was well attended by scores of young women from all over the capital hoping to view the latest trends modelled on the catwalk and to find special bargains on both beauty and fashion items only available at the event. It took me a year and a day to get to the venue because of train delays but the sunny weather made the journey there a bit more pleasant.

Hosted by top model Erin O' Connor and co-presenter of ITV2's "The Fashion Show" George Lamb, the catwalk element of the event was a riot. The stage was lit with a variety of special effects and provided a back drop against the upbeat music of artists like Lady GaGa, Dizzee Rascal and New Young Pony Club. The show opened with dancers practicing everything from ballet to hip hop and ballroom dancing.  The interchange between the models and the dancers on stage was so seamless that at times it seemed as if everyone were models.

Anthony Lowther Kate Price Jordan Anthony lowther 2

The true models gave a good show modelling a host of items of which many were glam rock inspired and in tune with the eighties vibe which is so in right now. It featured evening wear, party wear and street styles in various segments. Kate Price, Jordan, also managed to make an appearance alongside the fashion wonderman, Anthony Lowther where she played a beauty queen "Miss London" It was enough to create a frenzy as the girls behind me hyperventilated and screamed her name while the photographers made every effort to get the first pictures of Jordan on the catwalk since her break up with Peter Andre. The fashion show was entertaining however while I recognised some of the designer's work showcased on stage it would have been nice to have some material "in hand" at the event which indicated what pieces belong to which designer as it was easy to get carried away in the "circus" of events happening around us.

The market did have quite a few good finds, however the time we attended it meant a swarm of teenage girls had covered the complex and the resulting million queues meant you could be put off.

Steve Madden's shoes were extremely sexy and were sold like hot cakes at the reduced "Clothes Show" price. Much of the trendy clothing on sale had a "nautical" feel to them using navy blues with streaks of gold. There were some standout lines such as Chi Chi, which features some cute dresses with bold colour, Strawberry Kats, which had some beautiful shirts complete with romantic and whimsical frills and Meteor Shower at which I bought a really cute 50s inspired purse.

Pamela Anderson for Vivienne Westwood Ready To Wear Fall Winter 09/10

10 March 2009 1 Comment

Pamela Anderson made a special guest appearance  at Milan Fashion Week and walked the runway for the British Queen of Style, Vivienne Westwood . Surprisingly, Pamela Anderson didn't look out of place on runway ( other than having a bigger bust. Most People are actually surprised to find out that Pamela Anderson is Actually quite, tall 5 ft 7.5. That is about the same height as Heidi Klum. As usual Vivienne's show didn't disappoint and was a mixture of eclecticism and style.

Pamela Anderson was also part of Vivienne Westwoods Spring Summer 2009 Ad Campaign.

CHARLIE LE MINDU 09/10 AW LFW – and the Rodent mask

27 February 2009 1 Comment

Rat mice mindu head dressAndy Espin sent me some shots he took at french, celebrity harstylist, Charlie Le Mindu's show. As usual the shots are superb. The wigmaker/hairdresser put on a really extravagant show . His hair creations were very avante garde and pushed the limits of fashion. Charlie le Mindu has made a for himself by styling some of the hottest rockers around and by styling har for Blend and I-d Magazine.

There is one picture from the show that is making waves around the world. Charlie Le Mindu created a Rodent head piece that was made of the carcasses of white mice and rats. Hear is a picture of the model wearing the headpiece and they say "being a model isnt a hard job?". She is obviously a very brave girl and she isnt afraid of rodents.

Designers to die for: Omar Mansoor

27 February 2009 No Comments

2943 This Monday, I went to the Untold Fashion event at London's Foundling Museum. The event was "a collaboration of newly emerging designers".

I actually, got my invite for the show on Sunday but I was really glad to go because one of my fave emerging designers, Omar Mansoor was showing his collection there. I first saw his work at last years Wimbledon Fashion Week, and i was quite impressed (which isn't very easy to do). His last collection was a fusion of Eastern and Western style.

This seasons collection was different but still brilliant. The collection featured intricate draping and had a very Grecian feel to it, reminiscent of Bodyamr but with a more playful, girly vibe. Dresses were also embellished with beads, sequins and swarovski crystals. There was also a lot of movement in the garments which was almost sylph like.

Special thanks to photographer Michael Kruger from Dubaifashionbook.com for the images from the show.

Check back tommorow for a full review of all the designers at the event and a full gallery of the show.

Henry Holland Autumn Winter 09/10 -London Fashion

25 February 2009 No Comments

Henry-holland-aw-09

Agyness Deyn's BFF, Henry Holland unveiled his new collection this week.  Agyness lent her support by headlinng the show. The collection was far removed from his recent T-Shirt collection. He made use of monochromatic colours and horizontal whte stripes. The choice of colourst kind of reminds me of a paint chart.

The collection has a very grown up feel to it and at first glance it isnt what you would typcally expect from Henry's House of Holland label. Its kind of fusion of luxury and quirky.
