MAN AW2010 at London Fashion Week – Katie Eary

28 February 2010 2 Comments

Last year Katie Eary's collection was a bit on the macabre side. This year at her MAN AW 2010 London Fashion week show,  Katie has gone for knitwear contrasted with shimmering metallic fabrics. The collection also has a strong military vibe with printed parkas and crocodile printed shirts. Katie Eary's collection drew inspiration from Irvine Walsh's novel Marabou Stork Nightmares .

This is our second original shoot that we have shot exclusively for Beauty Confessional.net. This time we went for the military trend. The inspiration for the shoot was Cheryl Cole's Fight for this Love music video except we tried to bring a darker more masculine edge to the shoot and thus RENEGADE was born. The shoot features pieces from ASOS, Topshop, RIver Island as well as some authentic military pieces. We also drew inspiration from Joe over at 00o00 blog as he is very into rocking the military trend.

Here are the shots from the Burberry menswar runway show that took place on the 16th of January. As expected the Burberry  Autumn Winter 2010 collection was a fusion of fashion and utility, style and function.

As always the Burberry collection had really strong coats. "PROTECT, EXPLORE, INSPIRE A salute to our heritage - Burberry parade coats" -Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer.

The collection featured the classic cut trench coats that Burberry is famous for as well other silhouettes that included  parade jackets, pea coat, blanket coat, parka, utility coats, aviator jacket and various other military inspired cuts. The colour palette included black, melange greys, indigo, natural white, khaki, military green  and mustard. Another highlight of the collection was the accessories which included washed canvas and leather bags, military belts and military boots.

Ezra Constantine Debuts Spring Summer 2010 collection

17 January 2010 No Comments

-009

Designers, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong have successfully run the Greta Constantine, women's label for the past 4 years. The line is currently carried in SAMPLE New York, Holt Renfrew in Canada and  Harrod's here in London. now they are venturing into the world of  menswear with the Ezra Constantine label. Ezra Constantine will debut at the Greta Constantine Spring/Summer 2010  collection days prior to LG Fashion Week in Toronto.

For their Ezra Constantine Spring/Summer 2010 collection, the duo seeks to push the boundaries yet again, producing a collection that contrasts a harsh urban edge against a softer, more sensitive undertone traditionally not seen in men’s fashion. Their innovative use of stretch fabrics, as well as their contemporary cuts and designs bridge the world between fashion and utility.

Matthew Williamson Launches Men’s Spring Summer 2010 Collection

08 January 2010 No Comments

Matthew Williamson Menswear Collection spring summer 2010 3
Matthew Williamson's first step into the  world of menswear was his Spring Summer 2009 collection for H&M. Now FTAPE has revealed that the designer is  on the verge of launching  a menswear capsule collection  with the view of releasing  more collections seasonally.

The collection is made up of cashmere jumpers, printed and beaded t-shirts and printed scarves . The collection features  Matthew Williamson’s signature elements such as  colorful prints and a bold and bright color pallette.

I wanted to start a menswear line of slim fitting, luxury cashmere jumpers in a range of great colours. I know these jumpers will become season-less staples in my own wardrobe. Cashmere and silk printed scarves and hand beaded t-shirts compliment the line and form a solid foundation for the collection to grow next season.” - Matthew Williamson

Prices range from £195 to £450 and the collection is available  from the 15th of February at Harrods and online at Matthew Williams official online boutique.

Designer to Die For: Aaron Ray Dowie

05 January 2010 No Comments

Debonair, sophisticated, classy are all words that define the quintessential British Gentleman. These words are also synonymous with Designer Aaron Ray Dowie.  I first saw his work two years ago and I was really impressed by the sophisticated yet quirky aesthetic.  I usually don't find menswear collections as exciting as  womenswear but Aaron's craftsmanship and style really blew me away. His current collection is a tribute to the classic British gentleman with a modern twist.

"It was all based around my accrued knowledge in tailoring, from working at many of Savile Rows classic tailors. Also through searching through family archives and finding that the Dowie family had tailors many generations ago led me to design a strong heritage feel to the collection."- Aaron Ray Dowie

Aaron has also revealed to me that his new collection will be based around Winston Churchill. Bow ties and military are themes that run through as well as classic double breasted coats. Wonderfully British!!!

Calvin Klein Underwear Competition – A sneak peak at the best Brits

08 November 2009 2 Comments

Alistair.%20S.%20Wardell%20%28Full%20Body%29[1]
“Gorgeous guys in Calvin Klein underwear”.... A statement bound to get the attention of most young women. So when I heard that Calvin Klein is looking for its next rising star in the 9 Countries 9 Men 1 Winner Competition naturally I was interested in finding out more about the contest... and the fabulous guys in the competition. A prestigious panel of judges are currently reviewing all entries and will soon choose nine finalists who will represent each of the nine participating countries in Europe. The lucky nine will then vie for a one-year top male modelling contract with Select Model Management, and snag a luxury trip for two to South Africa.
There are 1000s of entries from across Europe but (just for you) I have picked out 4 of the most outstanding contestants from England and I am giving you a brief opportunity to find out a bit about them during the course of the week... See the first Alistair Wardell below.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself, (your background, and your interests, anything you want the public to know)

Well, I was brought up predominantly in Harrogate in North Yorkshire, spending a few formative years in Scotland, before venturing to London to read Law at University College London (UCL). Upon graduating from UCL I went to work as an Investment Banker in the City for nearly two years, and despite the unpopularity of the industry at the moment, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet, learn and socialise with some incredibly intelligent and diverse characters.

I guess that my main interest would have to socialising, anybody who knows me certainly wouldn’t hesitate in vouching for my enjoyment of a good party, and any attempt at claiming a proper or noteworthy hobby would just be a fabrication having stopped playing Rugby seriously shortly after beginning University. Though as pastimes go drinking, dining and conversing with friends and good company, particularly in a City as vibrant as London, is hard to surpass.

Over the years I have also become fond of exercising. Having not always been quite so athletic, I think it really was working in the City and escaping to the gym to maintain sanity and focus that cemented my affinity with sweat.

2. What made you decide to enter the Calvin Klein competition?

In short, it was my brother. Several people have mentioned modelling to me in the past, but it was not until he brought the competition to my attention and suggested I enter that I gave it serious consideration. Coming out of working in the City, and looking for a change, coupled with my brother’s encouragement, made me think why not. I mean the competition offers a unique opportunity to experience something completely different, and really would provide the change in direction to my life that I have been searching for.

 3. What artists would I find on your iPod right now?

Somewhat of an eclectic mix, including the new Bon Jovi album, The Script, David Guetta, Pavarotti and of course some old school Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack.

 4. What makes you stand out from the crowd/ what makes you unique?

Probably my creativity and panache for innovative and different thinking. To be clichéd, my thinking out of the box approach to life. This comes out in my care free and free spirited, borderline reckless, approach to enjoying life.

 5. If you could escape for a week to anywhere in the world where would it be?

Whitehaven beach, Whitsunday Island, Australia. Forming part of the protected Australian national park, Whitehaven beach on the uninhabited Whitsunday Island is accessible only by seaplane or boat, and for me, offers unparalleled escapism.

WWIT #7 – Battlefield

15 September 2009 No Comments

WWIT 7 Cover There are so many online magazines...  most of them aren't very good. Then you have to take into account that very few fashion magazines are targeted at men. If you do the logical deduction that means that there are very few good online men's fashion mags.

One of the delightful exceptions  to this general rule is WWIT. It's the creative child of Dennis Lye. I've been reading it for well over a year now. It used to be a men's style blog and now  it's evolved into an online glossy. Even the editorials have consistently gotten stronger.  Check out the editorial by  Reno Ranger below and dont forget to visit We're Worth it Too for Issue 7 - Battlefield!Editorial5

Collaboration: Husam El Odeh and Topman

05 August 2009 No Comments

Husam-El-Odeh topman 3

Richard Gray over at 10 Magazine ( who I am currently e-stalking...love their blog) has revealed images of a collab betweeen East London jeweler Husam El Odeh and Topman. Sounds really exciting. Husam is one of the most craved after jewellery designers in London and so far I'm liking the images of the collab that ive seen. However, I'm completely baffled about what the silver guy in the above picture is doing.

The line launches on October 19th.

French Connection Autumn Winter 2009-10 menswear Trends

French Connection Autumn Winter 2009-10 menswear Trends
Summer isn't even over and already the high street brands are releasing their lookbooks. So far we have seen the collections from Topshop and River Island. Now French Connection (FCUK) has revealed their  latest collection. Its  full of classic  chunky knits in  earthy colours, Plaid shirts. French Connection  is known for their edgy looks, this collection has a slightly preppier aesthetic.

My favourite look in the collection is the above image. The  grey sweater, the lighter under shirt and black trousers are teamed with a  pair  of brown Oxfords that create a sophisticated look. The looks should hit stores very soon.

Check back tomorrow as the women's collection will be previewed.
