Collaboration: Husam El Odeh and Topman

Husam-El-Odeh topman 3

Richard Gray over at 10 Magazine ( who I am currently e-stalking…love their blog) has revealed images of a collab betweeen East London jeweler Husam El Odeh and Topman. Sounds really exciting. Husam is one of the most craved after jewellery designers in London and so far I’m liking the images of the collab that ive seen. However, I’m completely baffled about what the silver guy in the above picture is doing.

The line launches on October 19th.

French Connection Autumn Winter 2009-10 menswear Trends

French Connection Autumn Winter 2009-10 menswear Trends
Summer isn't even over and already the high street brands are releasing their lookbooks. So far we have seen the collections from Topshop and River Island. Now French Connection (FCUK) has revealed their  latest collection. Its  full of classic  chunky knits in  earthy colours, Plaid shirts. French Connection  is known for their edgy looks, this collection has a slightly preppier aesthetic.

My favourite look in the collection is the above image. The  grey sweater, the lighter under shirt and black trousers are teamed with a  pair  of brown Oxfords that create a sophisticated look. The looks should hit stores very soon.

Check back tomorrow as the women's collection will be previewed.

Topman – That’s a really Bright Suit.

30 July 2009 No Comments

Topman bright suits
A few weeks ago,  I posted Topman’s NSFW the Neon Suit For Work. The suits are officially going under the name “Bright Suits”. The Bright Suits are now available on Topshop’s  website and are retailing for £200 in the UK, $500 in the US. They come in Mauve, Raspberry, Lime Green, Turquoise and Bright Blue. One things thats a certainty is that any man wearing these Topman Bright suits will be the centre of attention because these suits really do live up their reputation. I love the white shoes with bright suits, it’s a nice finishing touch and would look great for a night out on the town. Kudo’s to Topshop for making mens fashion interesting and original.

However, make sure you don’t go out with a group of friends all wearing the Bright Suit in different colours or you might end up looking like a 90′s boy band.

UKKO – Bridging the gap between Luxury Sportwear and Fashion

18 July 2009 2 Comments

I wouldn’t usually write about a sportswear brand on this blog. UKKO is a new Golf clothing clothing brand that is bridging the gap between sportswear and Luxury fashion.  I used to live near a luxury golf  course and I wouldnt usually describe golf wear as being the most fashionable style of clothing.  However, I think UKKO, is providing a fashionable alternative  for guys who have an appreciation for style.

My favourite aspect of the collection is its versatility. Not only can it be worn on the golf course but it could also be worn for  a night out on the town.  The brand has a similar aesthetic to labels such as Ben Sherman, Ralph Lauren and  Fred Perry. Any guy wearing this brand would ft in perfectly at most West End night clubs.

“UKKO is designed for both on and off the course and being golf crazy, we understand the needs of today’s golfer. A fusion of clean and functional design with intelligent and dynamic detailing combine to  ensure you’ll get noticed and can walk from green to bar without having to get changed.”- UKKO

Britney’s Boys in B*Boy Underwear (and I don’t mean Jayden and Sean Preston). The hugely successful world tour ‘The Circus starring Britney Spears’ is well underway on its journey across the continents. So far she has done shows in London and Paris and is now moving across Europe for the next leg of shows. World renowned stylist and creative director, Bboy’s own William Baker, a name usually synonymous with Pop Princess Kylie Minogue, was honoured to work with Britney as Style Director and Costume Designer alongside some of the biggest names in fashion to deliver a sexy, slick visually spectacular experience. Will even managed to squeeze some of his successful chic men’s underwear line  B*Boy into the show in the styling and costumes for Britney’s incredible hot male dance troupe. William’s signature Graffiti Range features in ‘Womanizer’ and the specially designed homage to the electrifying Ms Spears,’True Brit’ boxers in ‘Boys’. Topman NSFW : Neon Suit for Work

14 July 2009 No Comments

Topman-nsfw-suits-350x234 Topman has grasped the neon trend and created  five blindingly bright suits. The suits come in flourescent colours such as bold magenta, bright turquoise, and lime green, eggplant and royal blue. The suits are not  for everyone. They are for the guy that likes a lot of colour in his wardrobe and likes to stand out in a crowd. They might not be right for work but they could work for a night out on the town. You’d definitely turn some heads and stop traffic…literally.

Paul Smith pays tribute to Michael Jackson in his Spring Summer 2010 fashion show

29 June 2009 No Comments

Britain's favourite silver haired menswear designer, Paul Smith paid tribute to Michael Jackson at men's fashion week in Paris. For the finale of his show, he accompanied the models down the catwalk as they all danced to Michael Jackson's biggest hit, Thriller. Kudos to Paul!

Neil Barrett Spring Summer 2010

These images are from Neil Barrett's  Spring Summer 2010 collection. The show confirmed  a trend that I had noticed in the menswear hows in Milan.
Sleeves are so passe in Spring Summer 2010.
I swear in every menswear show i see  lots of sleeveless shirts. It seems arms are the big trend of 2010 menswear. It might be too late to get  nice toned set of guns for this Summer but there is still enough time to beef up by 2010. So before it gets too late I so need to hire a personal trainer!!!
Neil Barrett 00290m

As well as featuring lots of sleeveless shirts the Neil Barrett S/S 2010  collection had a very masculine feel with long shirts. Black white and earth tones were the main colours in the collection. The whole collection seems inspired by fencing from the cuts of the jackets to the knee  length pants. They are reminescent of fencing breeches and jackets.

Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer Mens 2010 Fashion Show

The Burberry Spring Summer 2010 menswear show just took place in Milan. Christopher Bailey has gone for a very functional collection. Lots of pale blues, beige's and yellows. In this collection Christopher  Bailey also used lots  of straps hanging around the waistline . I like the collection but I am not a hundred percent sold on the straps trend as I cant imagine it on any guy that isn't thin or doesn't look like a supermodel. On another note I really do like the vintage style chelsea boots and coats.

River Island Menswear Lookbook Autumn / Winter 09

20 June 2009 4 Comments

2081_7062_4_95204(2)

When I went to the River Island Press day I asked them to define the River Island man. They told me that River Island caters to various men and that they try to cater to the personal style of all men so they couldn't define the ir customers as conforming to a specific style aesthetic.  If I had to describe a River Island man in one word I would say 'dapper'. Looking at this lookbook  its easy to forget that River Island is a high street store. Definitely my favourite High street menswear collection  for Autumn Winter 2009.

Aussiebum at Selfridges

02 June 2009 No Comments

Aussiebum rounded up 15 of London's  buffest guys, to help Selfridges celebrate their 100th Birthday.  The evening also featured a celebrity guest appearance from singer Rachel Stevens.

Staying on the subject of men's underwear i was recently reading an article on Huffington Post about relationship  between the economy and the sale of mens underwear. Apparently, if you look in a guy's underwear drawer you can estimate  how bad the recession is. When the state of the economy decreases men buy less underwear. Right now men's underwear sales have stopped going down so maybe its an indicator that the worst of the recession is over.

Jaeger London Spring/Summer 09

Jaeger London

JCW_SS09_IMAGE_5 JLM_SS09_IMAGE_1

When i think of Jaeger I don’t immediately think of it as something I would wear. My aunt and uncle buy the brand by the  case load, so I usually think of it as appealing to an older demographic.  I just saw the images from the Jaeger London Spring/Summer 2009 lookbook and I am really impressed by the revitalization of the brand. Its got the high end look expected from  the Jaeger name but at the same time there is a youthful feel to the brand.

Last year, Stuart Stockdale came on board as Design Director of Jaeger. He previously revitalized  the image of Pringle of Scotland.  It might be early to say this but I think he can do for Jaeger, what  Christopher Bailey did for Burberry.

In the nineties Burberry had a negative image in the  public it started to become popular among  football hooligans and chavs. Not really an association that  a Luxury brand wants to have. However, since Christopher Bailey took over as Creative director they have revitalized the brand  and it is once again one of Britains strongest Luxury brands.  I think we are in for a surprise from Jaeger.

River Island Autumn/ Winter 2009 lookbook

RiverIsland clothing

I have always been a bit biased towards River Island. After all , half of my wardrobe is from their stores. This year we attended the River Island menswear Press Day but I missed the womenswear day. I did however get to see the womenswear lookbook. and it was quite impressive, Lots of fringing and muted  sequins.  Lots of pieces have  padded shoulders  that are reminiscent of  Lynda Carter and Joan Collins on 80's TV show, Dynasty. When I first saw the lookbook, I thought that this collection  doesn't even  look like a high a street brand, It looks very high end.

My only criticism of the collection is that  I can't wait for it to come out in August.

River Island Menswear Press Day Autumn/Winter 2009

02 May 2009 3 Comments

Ri PR Team
The River Island PR Team all decked out in RIver Island clothes and accessories

Knitwear and  accessories were  the main elements of River Island's  menswear  Autumn/Winter 2009  collection. The collection had something for all tastes and styles. Some pieces  had a Gothic vibe  with  influences of Japanese Punk Rock style while others pieces were more subtle and classic. The collection included Aran sweaters, cardigans, denim jackets,  knitted blazers and graphic tees. Im a big fan of all of the graphic tee's and definitely will be picking them up when the  collection  hit stores.

The accessories were my favourite part. From the knitted ties and checkered scarfs  to the over-sized manbags and totes, the accessories were great . In particular there  was a Britannia leather bag with a Union Jack design  that really caught my eye. Other pieces like the Trilby hats also had a strong British influence. Check out the pics below for a sneak peek at the rest of River Island's collection.

Matthew Williamson for H&M – Menswear

01 May 2009 No Comments

Matthew-williamson-mens-11

The images of Mathew Williamson's menswear collection for H&M have just been revealed and i am getting a bit  of Deja Vu because it looks just like his womenswear collection. Lots of bright blue, hot pink and other neon colours. However it shouldnt be a surprise given that Matthew WIlliamson  once said, "Colour is the thing i'm best known for. If people pigeonhole me , so what? Long live the Pink dress". While I was head over heels for Matthew's H&M womenswear line  Im not  totally sold on the menwear line. What made the womens line so good doesnt quite translate to the mens line. I like the studded jacket but the rest of the collection… Its just a bit OTT( over the top).  I do however like the new additions to the womens wear line.

While i am a bit uncertain about the menwear line I think These new additions to the womenswear line will prove very popular
