Here is a little preview of an amazing shoot we did last month. More Images from the shoot will follow  shortly. The photography was by Piers Vernon Kell of PVK Media, styling by  Ivie Okhions, hair & makeup by  Stephanie Stokkvik and the models were Amanda @ Confidence Models and Laurence Cope  @ Select Models. You should recognize Laurence from the Calvin Klein 9 Countries 9 Men competition that he won earlier this year. I think the photos are amazing, you can be the judge for yourself. We were going for a “Mad Men” vibe but I think Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf would be proud.

I always get excited when I see an email from Remi Rebillard in my inbox. His work is absolutely amazing. He sent me one of his personal projects called "The Portrait" . Who knew floating could look so breathtaking. The images capture the serenity and calming nature of the sea but at the same time they emphasse the power of the sea while the girls float like driftwood in the water. Genius!

purple eyes Runway Beauty Trend: Powdery Purple Eyeshadows

At Victoria Beckham and Etro, the look was all about a pastel purple eye and
nude/golden lips. The looks is girly, fun, and perfect for party girls. In both cases the shadow was dusted up to the brows and hair was kept sleek and minimal to keep the focus on the eyes - and the fabulous clothes, of course! The skin was very clean and matte and brows were kept natural.

To copy this look at home, stick with matte lavender shades, a peachy blush and a nude gloss for Etro and ditch the blush and gloss for the more minimal style at Victoria Beckham. Consider "D. Gorgeous" shadow from Nars, a matte dusty lilac, and DuWop's "Violet Eyes" palette. The key is to keep the rest of the face and hair fairly simple, so avoid shadows with sparkly or shimmery shadows and use a light touch on the rest of the face.

Will you be pretty in purple come Spring?

SS11 Beauty Trends: Orange Lips

29 September 2010 1 Comment

There's always a certain point during Fashion Week when I get really burnt out on following all the runway coverage. It's not because I'm not fascinated by the shows, its that I start feeling glum about the fact that I'll never be able to own any of the incredible clothes. It is at this point that I turn my attention to the beauty trends. Hair and makeup are just as important as the clothes when presenting a collection, but generally don't come with a £2,000 price tag in a size you can't fit into. And they can often be imitated at home. So without further ado, let's talk SS11 beauty trends!

Orange Lips

orange lips ss11

Looks like next Spring, orange is king (Orange doesn't rhyme with anything so we'll just have to make do with that). From the orange-on-orange seperates at Prada to PPQ's pumpkin-coloured mini dresses, orange is everywhere on the runways...including models' lips. And its not a shy peach or a muted coral, it's balls-out traffic cone orange at Fendi and Ohne Titel, neon at Les Copains and a glossy persimmon at Vena Cava.

buy orange lipstick

To achieve the look at home, Lime Crime Cosmetics has you covered with a buttery orange-sherbert lipstick called "Cosmopop" and a matte tangerine shade called "My Beautiful Rocket". Purchase online at Lime Crime or at Space NK in the UK. For a more apricot shade, go for Illamasqua's "Perilous" (buy here).

Katy Perry Giles Deacon banned sesame street
Katy Perry in Giles Deacon was banned sesame street

Katy Perry recently filmed a segment for Sesame Street where she did a special version of Hot and Cold with Elmo. However, the skit hasn’t gone down well with parents because they didn’t like the amount of cleavage  Katy was showing when she wore a green Giles Deacon dress. We think this is totally ridiculous, especially considering that Miss Piggy shows more cleavage than Katy. The dress Katy is wearing  was the first look from Giles Deacon's RTW 2010 collection.

Fashion Icon: Lady Gaga or Audrey Hepburn?

Lady Gaga meat dressWhat is a fashion icon? Who is a fashion icon? It’s a subjective idea, really, and has stirred up a great deal of argument and debate among critics and fashion historians.

In modern times we have Lady Gaga whose off-the-wall, controversial outfits have caused quite a frenzy in the fashion world. Is she a fashion icon? Some would say, “Yes!” while others would disagree. Her most outrageous outfit came just recently with the meat dress she wore at the Video Music Awards. We’ll give her credit for her creative ideas and the ability to grab entertainment headlines on a weekly basis - and perhaps she inspires people to take fashion risks, but is she indeed a true fashion icon?

I usually look to fashion shows to see what the major trends will be for the upcoming season. So if Charlie Le Mindu's SS2011 collection is any indication I guess people will be wearing nothing. On Sunday, Charlie Le Mindu sent models down the catwalk at London Fashion week wearing nothing but pink boots and a hat.

Vivienne Westwood Penis Shoe Selfridges

Yes, you read that right. I visited the Vivienne Westwwod display at Selfridges to see the exhibit titled "Vivienne Westwood Shoes — an Exhibition 1973-2010". Flats, stilettos and platform heels were on display. However, there was one shoe, that had everyone pulling out their i-Phones and Blackberries to snap a picture...of the aptly titled "Penis Shoe".

Nicola Formichetti Thierry mugler creative director 241x300It's been confirmed that Vogue Hommes Director, Nicola Formichetti will join Thierry Mugler as the label's new creative director.

With reference to his new role, Nicola said: "Thierry Mugler is about the power of glamour and walking straight into the future. He's been a god for successive generations in the fashion industry. He fused pop and high fashion, told a story in style and combined fantasy with reality. My approach is personal and always very eclectic. I'd like to find new ways for a luxury brand such as Thierry Mugler to excite people." As Nicola is also Lady Gaga's stylist, I guess this means Lady Gaga will be wearing a lot more Thierry Mugler.

The highly anticipated Alexa Chung for Madewell collection is finally for sale, but not for long! The 25-piece collection, which consists of graphic tees, blouses, vintage-style smock dresses, jackets and jeans, is sure to sell out quickly as her legions of fashionista fans flock to buy the pieces. The collection has Alexa written all over it; Feminine little dresses with peter pan collars and menswear-inspired jackets, urban-chic skinny jeans with old-school fisherman knit sweaters...contrasting pieces that reflect her aesthetic. Alexa's style is laid-back urban with a pinch of girly, a sprinkle of retro and a good dose of Englishness, elements which are present throughout the collection. Get your hands on it while you still can! Alexa Chung for Madewell.

Posh at New York Fashion week

Image 142

Everyone's favorite WAG, ex-Spice Girl and British Fashion Awards nominee Victoria Beckham just unveiled her Spring 2011 collection at New York Fashion Week. Although the collection featured many of Posh's signature streamline, super-flattering tailored looks, there were also flowy draped pieces in purples and nudes for a lighter Spring style. With pops of canary yellow, asymetrical necklines and a distinct lack of accessories, overall the feel was minimal, futuristic, and very feminine. The makeup was reminiscent of Miu Miu AW10, especially on Lindsey Wixon who did both the Miu Miu campaign and walked in Victoria's show; Pastel purple eyeshadow all the way up to the brows, nude lips and slicked hair. Posh also kept her promise not to use "size-0" models in her show, and Kristy Kaurova and Amanda Laine were a few of the models to share the catwalk with Lindsey. Come Spring, you can expect to be seeing a lot of these pieces worn by her growing celebrity clientele. Overall a strong collection, but a collection consisting almost entirely of dresses...one wonders if Victoria Beckham will branch out into seperates in her next.  By Emma Freed

Parra Chuck Taylor converse 3

Converse  have collaborated with graphic artist Pieter "Parra" Janssen to  create a special shoe  for charity. With the sale of each shoe, 10% of the net wholesale price will go to The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. The name (Paint The Town) RED is both a nod to Parra’s roots in graffiti and street art, as well as the goal of creating awareness and inviting others to join (RED) in the fight against AIDS in Africa. Each  pair ofChuck Taylor Converse All Star in the collection is unique, yet is unified with an iced outsole with a paint brush stroke.

Parra chose to create a khaki shoe featuring a playful take on perp. In true Parra spirit, the pattern is a departure from the standard repeat print and features a more ironic version with cherries complete with legs and stiletto heels.

"I wanted to incorporate the color red, and cherries came up. I wanted to go for a kind of preppy look, but I didn't want it to be so serious, so I incorporated the cherry character!" Parra.

The Parra Chuck Taylor silhouette launches in Foot Patrol and Dover Street Market this week at the RRP of £89.99.
